According to Dr. David R. Tarpy, the reason for the bees are still unknown. We can rule out the media hype regarding cell phones and GMOs in corn. He reminded us that in the late 1800s a bacterium disease called foulbrood took a while to diagnose. White identified the cause in 1907.
An interesting point is that when they go in to take a sample of the collapsed colony they do not detect any parasites in the hive, which usually they are on it immediately after it is abandoned. hmmm....
I heard him say that although they know so much, they also know so little.
A couple of other experts to look to for answers are: Jeffery S Pettis, Huag? (I will check on that one), and maybe try a read by Bernd Heinrich.
